About Me

Hello there! ✋🏾

My name is Blandina, I am a registered Dental Hygienist and Therapist with the General Dental Council, UK. Welcome to my page!

I am originally from South Africa and Malawi and settled in the South of England. Spending time in Hampshire, Wiltshire and Surrey. I also briefly lived in Staffords, Staffordshire where our son was born! I have been in the dental profession for 21 years now! My career in dentistry started in 2002! When I qualified as a Dental Nurse. (NEBDN)

I really enjoyed being a dental nurse, and I remember how proud I was when I qualified. The first 2 years of my career, I worked in surgery and sometimes I would do some administration work. In the 3rd year of my career, I worked as a practice supervisor and managed a 2 surgery practice. This confirmed to me that my passion was in the clinical aspect of dentistry. During this time, I worked with a wonderful dentist and I would also nurse for our hygienist. Both were key in answering all my questions and encouraging me to go for it and apply for the Dental Hygiene Programme.

In 2008, I qualified as a Dental Hygienist with the Defence Dental Services, awarded by the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. I worked for 5 years as a dental hygienist before I decided to go back to University and study dental therapy.

In 2011, I gained a Bsc (Hon) Degree in Health Promotion from Middlesex University, London. I felt that I wanted to expand my knowledge and better understand health inequalities, why people make the decisions they do, and their main influencing factors. I wanted to understand how as health professionals we can best support our communities. Again, this was a challenge I very much enjoyed.

In 2015, I qualified as a Dental Therapist from the University of Bristol. My time in Bristol was amazing and hard work too at the same time! As I would commute from Basingstoke to Bristol for my studies. I was so lucky to be in a group of amazing and hard working Hygienists whom I have remained good friends with to date!

These days, I am a practising Dental Hygienist and Therapist at at {My} Dentist, Stanford Road and {My} Dentist, Shakespeare Road in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

With over 21 years experience in dentistry, It is my pleasure to help you regain your confidence through a brighter and healthier smile. I aim to give you the tools needed to maintain good oral hygiene at home, in between visits. My experience in NHS and private practice, military, and community dentistry has helped shape the clinician that I am today.

I particularly pay attention to listening to patients, making them feel comfortable and not rushed during treatment. My aim is to ensure that the session goes at the patients pace, which works very well with anxious and nervous patients. I have treated patients from different age groups, backgrounds and medical histories. My patients have been as young as 7 to 96 years old. What is most important to me is making everyone feel welcome and relaxed during each session.

Over the years I have helped students with their University entry interviews for the BSc (Hon) Degree in Dental Hygiene & Dental Therapy.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, my husband and son. I love keeping myself fit by visiting the gym and I very much enjoy baking and sewing.

In 2013, the General Dental Council ( GDC) made it possible for patients to have access to a Dental Hygienist and Therapist without the need to see a dentist first. Giving people more freedom and access. I would be more than happy to help you look after your oral health and discuss your own personalised at home oral hygiene routine.
